Niger has announced that it has requested the replacement of the European Union ambassador, Salvador Pinto Da França.
Niger’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that cooperation with the ambassador was no longer possible, requesting EU officials to officially recall the ambassador and appoint another representative.
This request came after a disagreement regarding the distribution of a €1.3 million humanitarian aid package for flood victims. The Niger government claimed that the aid was transferred to international NGOs while excluding the government from the process. More than 270 people lost their lives in the recent floods, and over 700,000 people were affected.
Nigerian authorities argue that this situation regarding aid management has harmed the cooperation process.
