Erdoğan made significant statements during the program held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
President Erdoğan stated that violence against women is a crime against humanity, declaring: “Anyone who raises a hand against a woman or commits physical or psychological violence must face the punishment they deserve. Ensuring this is a fundamental duty of the state.”
Offering condolences to victims of violence against women, Erdoğan emphasized that this struggle is a shared responsibility between the state, civil society organizations, and all sectors of society. He highlighted significant progress made in Turkey on critical issues concerning women and stated:
“Violence against women is a betrayal of humanity. Anyone who stoops to such barbarity must face the consequences. In this fight, our state will continue its determination through all its institutions.”
Erdoğan also delivered harsh criticism of Israel’s attacks on Gaza, labeling them as genocide. He stated: “Nearly 50,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, 70% of whom are women and children. The steadfast and dignified stance of Palestinian women sets an example for the entire world.”
Underlining Turkey’s solidarity with Palestinian women, he added: “Turkey, along with all its women, stands with the courageous women of Gaza and Palestine.”
The president praised the efforts of the Ministry of Family and Social Services and civil society organizations, highlighting the role of society in this fight. He stressed the importance of cooperation to completely eliminate violence against women.
The program concluded with the announcement of new steps aimed at raising social awareness in the fight against violence against women.
