Jemal Beker, Ethiopia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Turkmenistan and Islamabad, visited the Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he held extensive talks with senior leadership.
During the meeting, Mergen Gurdov, Chairman of the Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the Ambassador and emphasized the interest of the Turkmen business community in the trade and investment opportunities offered by Ethiopia.
The discussions focused on initiatives to enhance bilateral trade by establishing institutional ties between the two countries. Gurdov expressed the Turkmen business community’s eagerness to participate in international fairs and exhibitions held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. Additionally, the economic progress achieved under the leadership of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was praised.
Ambassador Jemal Beker stated that the Ethiopian government and people look forward to warmly welcoming investors and entrepreneurs from Turkmenistan. He highlighted Ethiopia’s recognition as a symbol of Pan-Africanism and its status as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
Furthermore, the Ambassador provided insights into Ethiopia’s ongoing Domestic Economic Reforms, which have created significant trade and investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and information technology. Ethiopia’s position as a major coffee producer and its production of soybeans, sesame, and spices enhance the potential trade opportunities for Turkmenistan. On the other hand, Turkmenistan’s vast market in sectors such as textiles, fertilizers, machinery, chemicals, and construction materials facilitates the development of strong economic ties between the two countries.
In conclusion, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations between Ethiopia and Turkmenistan.
