Türkiye has strongly condemned a drone attack targeting a United Nations base in Sudan that resulted in the deaths of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and left several others injured.

In a statement released on Monday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to the wounded, describing the strike as a grave and unacceptable act against international peacekeeping forces.

Ankara reiterated its firm support for Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity, stressing that lasting stability in the country can only be achieved through dialogue and a comprehensive political solution. The ministry emphasized Türkiye’s continued backing for international and regional efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

The attack occurred amid ongoing fighting between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, a conflict that has raged since April 2023 and plunged the country into a deep humanitarian crisis marked by mass displacement and widespread civilian suffering.

The targeted peacekeepers were serving with the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), which operates in the disputed Abyei region along the Sudan–South Sudan border. The mission’s mandate was recently renewed as insecurity persists in the area.

Türkiye called for the protection of UN personnel and urged all parties in Sudan to respect international law and prioritize a peaceful path forward to prevent further loss of life.
