The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced a ban on the sale and import of foreign-produced drones, pointing to growing national security concerns. According to the FCC, foreign-made unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and their critical components have been added to a list of products prohibited from entering or being sold in the United States.

In its statement, the FCC argued that these systems present an “unacceptable risk to U.S. national security.” The agency cited several factors behind the decision, including the United States’ role as host of major international events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games, as well as the increasing need to protect U.S. airspace from threats linked to cartels, terrorist organizations, and foreign governments.

The FCC clarified that the ban will not apply retroactively and will not affect foreign-made drones that have already been sold within the country.

Support for the decision also came from the U.S. House of Representatives’ Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. In a statement shared via social media, the committee welcomed the move, arguing that the ban would strengthen national security and reduce risks associated with Chinese-manufactured drones.
