The Sudanese Army announced the complete liberation of Sinjah, the capital of Sennar state, and the reopening of the main highway connecting it to Sennar city. This marks an important step in the army’s campaign against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Sinjah, which came under RSF control during the attack in June, was recaptured by the army on November 23 following intense clashes. The commander overseeing operations in Sennar state, Lieutenant Colonel Fath al-Alim al-Shobli, confirmed that Sinjah and the surrounding areas were now secured.
“We have completed the final phase of liberating Sinjah, and the national highway linking Sinjah to Sennar city is now open,” he said. He also mentioned that the road from Mayirno to Sinjah and several nearby villages had been cleared of RSF forces.
The army’s advance involved the retaking of several strategic locations, such as Mayirno, Al-Nouraniya, Tayba Al-Lawain, Al-Marfa’a, and Umm Shuka, where the RSF were reported to have committed violations against civilians. In a previous success on October 5, the army captured the Muya mountain range, cutting off an RSF supply route.
Despite these gains, the RSF still control key areas, including Al-Dali and Al-Mazmoum regions near the South Sudan border, as well as parts of the Blue Nile state. The army continues its efforts to eliminate the RSF presence and restore stability to the region.
