Sony’s PlayStation Portal, a Portable Gaming Device Making Waves This Year, Gets Cloud Gaming Feature
Sony’s highly anticipated portable gaming device, PlayStation Portal, has received the long-awaited cloud gaming streaming feature.
The new system update is being rolled out in a beta phase, exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
Cloud Gaming Support
With this update, PlayStation Portal now supports playing certain PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog via cloud streaming. However, there are minimum internet speed requirements for the feature to work:
- At least 7 Mbps for 720p resolution
- At least 13 Mbps for 1080p resolution
Some Limitations Remain
Despite the update, cloud gaming support does not yet include PS4 and PS3 games. Additionally, certain PlayStation Plus features, such as voice chat, game invitations, 3D audio, and in-game purchases, are not available on this device. Child accounts also cannot access cloud gaming services.
New Audio and Settings Features
Alongside cloud support, the update introduces more flexible audio settings for the device. The minimum audio level can now be customized, and the settings for PlayStation Link devices can now be adjusted directly through the Portal.
Improvements to User Experience
These new features aim to significantly enhance the user experience for PlayStation Portal owners. The update has started rolling out as a beta in selected regions and is expected to reach all users shortly.
With these advancements, PlayStation Portal aims to further solidify its position in the portable gaming device market.
